Independent Flooring Inspector for East Sussex & the South East

As your Independent Flooring Inspector service in East Sussex and the South East, we provide clear, unbiased flooring inspections for domestic problems and disputes. If you are dealing with a flooring complaint, installation issue, or unresolved disagreement with a retailer or installer, an independent flooring inspection can provide the clarity you need to move forward.

Most flooring disputes stall for one simple reason. The advice being given is not truly independent.

Retailers defend their suppliers.

Installers defend their workmanship.

Manufacturers defend their products.

An independent flooring inspection removes that conflict.

Our role is to inspect, document, and explain, so you can move forward with clarity and confidence.

Grimley Flooring’s story spans generations and decades of hands-on experience in flooring and soft furnishings.

The family trade began in the 1930s with upholstery and traditional craftsmanship, later evolving into carpet fitting and flooring installation. Over the years, this practical knowledge was passed down, shaping a deep understanding of how floors are installed, how they are meant to perform, and where problems typically begin.

Simon Grimley entered the trade in 2000 as an apprentice, working alongside his father and developing experience across fitting, estimating, and customer care. His career later included roles with national retailers, expanding his technical understanding of flooring performance, installation standards, and dispute resolution.

In 2020, Simon founded Grimley Flooring as a third generation family-run business. That heritage now underpins our role as an Independent Flooring Inspector, bringing over 26 years of flooring experience into calm, factual inspections designed to provide answers rather than opinions.

    Are you truly independent?

Yes. Although Grimley Flooring is an established flooring company, our Independent Flooring Inspector service operates with strict separation from our supply and installation work. We do not carry out remedial work or provide quotes connected to any inspection, and our findings are based solely on what we observe on site.

Our role during an inspection is to assess the floor and provide a clear, professional opinion, not to sell a solution.

How do you remain independent if you are a flooring company?

To protect the integrity of our inspections, we do not offer the supply or install of flooring, or rectification work, for clients who request an independent inspection. We also do not work directly for those clients for a period of 12 months following the inspection.

This separation removes any commercial influence and ensures our findings remain unbiased, credible, and focused solely on the condition and performance of the floor.

What is the inspection usually used for?

Most inspections are requested due to a complaint or dispute. This may be with a retailer, installer, or manufacturer. Clients typically want clear answers on what has gone wrong and whether the issue relates to the product, the installation, or site conditions.

Will your report support a complaint or dispute?

Our one-page report outlines what we find and our professional opinion on likely causes. While it is not a legal document, it is suitable for sharing with retailers, installers, manufacturers, insurers, or payment providers when seeking resolution.

Do you carry out repairs or replacement work?

No. We do not carry out any remedial work following an inspection. This ensures our findings remain fully independent.

What flooring types do you inspect?

We inspect most domestic flooring types including carpet, LVT, vinyl, laminate, safety flooring, and installation or subfloor-related issues. Solid wood and engineered wood flooring are excluded.

How long does an inspection take?

Most inspections take between 45 and 90 minutes, depending on the size of the area and the nature of the issue.

Do you cover London and the wider South East?

Yes. Our core area is East Sussex, but we regularly carry out inspections across the South East of England, including West Sussex, Kent, Surrey, Hampshire, and Greater London. Travel costs are confirmed before booking.

How do I request an inspection?

Use the contact form on this page to briefly explain the issue you are experiencing. We will review the details, confirm whether an independent inspection is appropriate, and then discuss availability and pricing before anything is arranged.

You don’t have to take our word for it. Customers choose us for straightforward advice, tidy fitting, and floors that last. Our work is backed by clear guarantees.
