The Challenge

Our client came to us after their newly installed click LVT flooring began lifting in the bathroom — just months after the build was completed. Understandably frustrated, they’d lost confidence in the previous installer and weren’t sure what had gone wrong.

On inspection, we found several serious issues:

  • No expansion gaps around the perimeter or doorways
  • Smoothing compound laid without primer
  • Subfloor with excessive moisture levels
  • Click LVT not suitable for the bathroom environment

These failures had caused bubbling, lifting, and a general sense of regret around what should have been a clean, modern finish.

Our Solution

We took a careful, staged approach:

  1. Assessment and Moisture Testing
We used a calibrated moisture meter to identify high readings in the subfloor, confirming the need for a damp-proof membrane.
  2. Floor Removal and Subfloor Preparation
The LVT was carefully cut back to the doorway. We then scraped and vacuumed the failed smoothing compound.
  3. Damp Protection and Re-Smoothing
An epoxy damp-proof membrane (F Ball F77) was applied, followed by F Ball 1500 smoothing compound to create a fresh, stable base.
  4. High-Performance Flooring Installation
We installed a tile-effect LVT from J2 Flooring in Cumbrian Slate, finished with a Cream design strip, using F48+ adhesive for a full bond.

The Result

The client now has a bathroom floor that not only looks fantastic but is built to last. The space feels complete and dependable — no more worries about warping or water damage.

Why It Matters

This project is a reminder that even premium materials can fail without the right preparation. The floor you walk on is only as good as the work beneath it.
